Arthur Lopez Huerta, 85, passed away on May 14, 2024, after a short illness at his home in Tucson, Arizona. In honor of his life, a warm and inclusive celebration will be held on Saturday, June 22, at the family home, where memories and stories will be shared.
Arthur, affectionately known as Tudy, was born to Mary Edith Lopez on October 20, 1938, in Globe, Arizona. He was a proud high school graduate, afterwards serving nine years in the U.S. Navy's Construction Battalion (Seabees). His commitment to service extended to his family, as he married his beloved Mary Helen Riesgo on December 24, 1960, and together, they raised three sons and one daughter in Long Beach, California. Art's dedication was also evident in his career, spanning over 40 years at Douglas, McDonnell-Douglas, and Boeing until his medical discharge in October 2001. In his leisure time, he found joy in model railroading, building Greyhound buses, collecting model Harley-Davidson motorcycles and vintage airplanes, listening to all genres of music, and singing karaoke.
His family paid this tribute to him: "Dad and Mom went everywhere together, and he was always ready with a joke and a smile. He will be deeply missed."
Art is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter and son-in-law, a sister, two grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his eldest son, three brothers, four sisters, and his mother and stepfather.
