Bonnie Garrison passed away on March 21, 2021 after a sudden illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Imogene Block. She is survived by her loving husband William Garrison and their children Bryon Garrison, Connie Burroughs, and Amanda Winters and their spouses. Bonnie was also the proud grandmother to 10 beautiful and talented grandchildren. The darkness of her passing is eclipsed by the bright light of the example of her life.
She was a devoted wife and mother and beautiful soul, driven by a desire to learn and to share that learning with others. Even though she only came to teaching as her official profession in the last few years- she has always been a teacher- to her children, to her community, and especially to the children that other people would overlook. She traveled throughout the country, and overseas, as a Navy wife. Even after her husband retired, they didn't stop exploring, traveling, and creating their own adventures. Her hunger for learning wove throughout everything that she did and she taught her children to capture their experiences like treasured photos in their minds. She was inspired by the curiosity and enthusiasm of the children that she taught at the Academies of Math and Science in Tucson. The children in her classrooms brought her incredible joy and motivation, and her colleagues became a strong and valued community.
Those of us who are left behind will miss her intensely. We continue to love her deeply. She left us with an example of what it means to be kind while still being strong, to be incredibly smart but not superior, and to always see the potential in others.
