Tucson, Arizona - Denis John McGibbon, passed away peacefully in Tucson on February 2nd, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on January 4th, 1948, in Ramsey County, Minnesota. Denis cherished his Midwestern roots and brought his warm spirit everywhere he went.
Denis’ life was a testament to dedication and passion. He went to St Jude’s Catholic grade school and graduated from Mahtomedi High School. He also earned a Teaching degree from Mankato State University.
He committed 37 years to the U.S. Postal Service, rising through the ranks to become Postmaster in Northfield, Hastings, and Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He was known for his friendly service and dedication to his community.
Beyond work, Denis’ life unfolded like an adventure novel. He carved through snowy slopes as an avid skier, enjoyed the thrill of duck hunting, and navigated calm waters on his boat. His love for American history fueled his reading passion, and his Duck Decoy collection. Denis actively participated in the Ducks Unlimited and the Sandlake Property Owners Association. He was a past President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Post Masters United States (NAPUS). Leaving his mark on the communities he cared about.
But Denis’ true legacy lies in the warmth he brought to those around him. His beautiful eyes and smile were instantly disarming, while his cooking was legendary. The aroma of his chili and chicken wild rice soup will forever be etched in the memories of those who loved him.
Denis leaves behind his loving wife Kathy, with whom he shared 38 years of love and laughter. He is also survived by his brothers Tim, Mick, Paul, and Gerry, who will carry his memory in their hearts. He joins his parents Neal and Zita McGibbon, and brother Patrick, in eternal peace.
Denis’ absence leaves a void, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. He was a man who embraced life to the fullest, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and adventure.
