Elvira Cruz

Elvira “Vera” Cruz, 88, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2019. Vera was born March 28, 1931, in Bisbee, Arizona. On July 5, 1954, she married Stephen B. Cruz Sr., an Airman assigned to Davis Monthan Air Force Base. They traveled to many places with their five children. Vera retired from the Tucson Unified School District where she worked as a Bus Monitor for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband MSgt (retired) Stephen B. Cruz Sr., on May 10, 2014, and daughter Patricia Ann Gomez, on November 2, 2012. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives if her surviving children: Carol (Robert) Maerk, Stephen (Christina) Cruz Jr., Norma (Tom) Faras, and Elaine (George) Toledo, her son-in-law Joe Gomez Sr. (Patsy Ɨ), thirteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 5:00 p.m., at Sensible Cremation and Funerals Funeral Home, 109 W. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 192 S. Stone Avenue, Tucson, AZ.

Burial for Vera and Steve will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 15950 N. Luckett Road, Marana, AZ.
