Howard Dale Schrecker, known to his family as Dale, was born in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, on August 4, 1933, to Howard Frazier Schrecker and Catherine Ruth Girt. He married Carol Arlene Foeks on December 15, 1956, in Tarentum. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard and sister Kathryn, and his daughter Karen, and he is survived by his wife Carol, his son Ken and daughter Kathy, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Penn State University as a mechanical engineer, then worked for Alcoa Corporation at its research lab in Merwin, Pennsylvania, as a development engineer responsible for multiple patents related to the design of modern aluminum beverage containers. A longtime Steelers and Penn State fan, he served as a Boy Scout leader, sang in the North Phoenix Baptist Church choir, and volunteered for 10 years at Del Webb Hospital in Surprise, Arizona, where he lived since 1999. He died at his home in Surprise on April 25, 2020. A funeral will take place on May 4 at Grand Community Baptist Church in Surprise followed by burial on May 5 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Association.
