John Newton

John Newton, 72, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away June 21st after several years of illness. m

Born to Bill and Virginia Newton, John was the oldest of four children. John grew up in Sandusky, Ohio, graduated from Sandusky High School in 1968 and went on to attend Heidelburg University.

John moved from Sandusky to Toledo where he began working as a medical lab technician at Riverside Hospital in 1972. It was at Riverside Hospital where he me Peggy ( Hughes) Newton, and they married in 1973. John and Peggy became foster parents to several children over the years, and parent to fiver of their own. John worked at Riverside Hospital for 30 years until its closure in 2002, where staff then moved to St Anne hospital. John worked at St. Anne until his retirement in 2005.

After retiring John fulfilled his wish of moving to warmer weather and moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he lived the remainder of his years.

John will be remembered for his vast knowledge that he attributed to his love of reading. He believed "a day without learning was a day wasted". John loved collecting new and used books, especially by the author Clive Cussler. John could often be seen watching movies and TV shows and was proud owner of a very large collection of VHS and DVDs. Some of his favorites included "Used Cars" and "Greedy". John will also be remembered for his love of memorabilia and collectibles.

John loved music, especially rock. he was trumpet player for many years, and often told stories of playing in the Cedar Point band when living in Sandusky. John enjoyed live music and theatre, and once acted in a Toledo Repertoire Theatre production of "A Christmas Carol".

John is survived by his children, Tom Newton, Tim Newton, Alicia (Jon) Jaffe, Sarah (Derreck) Newton, and Teresa (Andrew) Harding. Siblings Bill ( Becky) Newton, Mike (Linda) Newton, and Nancy (Jeff) Cullen. he is preceded in death by his parents William "Bill" Newton, Virginia "Ginny" Newton and his grandson Christopher.

To honor his wishes, there will be no funeral service held. We invite you to celebrate John's memory in your own ways, knowing he is with all of us in spirit.
