John Charles Padrutt
1949 – 2022
“Our John”, best friend and dearest love, recently passed away in Tucson, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Hans Padrutt. Survivors include, but are not limited to Sheila L. Halbert, love of his life for 38 years, her son, Michael Dean Halbert, and their God Daughter, BettyJo Hensley. Although John had no children of his own, Dean and BettyJo were the children of his heart.
Born in Orange, California, John spent most of his youth in Ohio, where he graduated from the University of Toledo. In 1973 he moved to Arizona and accepted a position with the State of Arizona. He retired in 2015 after 42 years of service.
The above paragraphs correctly define John Padrutt as a loving, hardworking, decent man. But, those of us fortunate enough to have known him and loved him, would like to introduce you to “Our John”.
John loved music. While attending the University, he set up sound equipment for rock bands. As a result, John had amazing sound systems, and knew the words to almost any song presented to him.
John loved people, and he loved helping people. He was destined for a position dealing with and assisting them. He believed that all people could succeed; and he helped them to succeed. His wit and humor opened the door to communication; and his ability to accept people as they are, resulted in their trust. He gave his time and expertise willingly to anyone in need. Over the years, John helped hundreds of people, at his work and in his personal life.
John had an amazing mind, and he loved to learn. His passion was researching multitudes of topics. He was particularly interested in ways to cut energy costs.
John could do anything; and his interests were diverse beyond imagination, For example: He loved photography and graphic design, both of which he did beautifully. He loved rappelling, river rafting, snorkeling, and all types of skiing. He was an online gamer who loved Sniper Fury; but he also loved a good game of Euchre. John was always up for sport activities, whether he was observing or participating. However, his pride and joy was co-coaching Little League for over a decade with Sam Rosthenhausler, his best friend of 30 years.
John was never bored, nor was he ever boring. He was a lover of life. Though he was very social and helpful to others, he was very private in his personal life. He was proud and never wanted to burden others with his misfortunes. But he cherished all of us and held us close to his heart. We are grateful to have accompanied him on parts of his journey through life.
John was a great friend, and family man. His dogs were a major part of his family; and they received the best of care and tremendous love. Krosby was his little Angel. Unbeknownst to others, she secretly accompanied him to work on many occasions. She was a three-pound Poodle with a personality as big as John's. Today they sit, side by side, together once more.
“Our John” left us over one month ago; but he has somehow managed to be with us every day. He is helping us do what needs to be done; and he fuels our energy to get through this difficult time. Even in death, “Our John” is still as big as life. We love you, John.
Prayer for the Soul of a Loved One
Lord God, as inevitable as death is, there is no way around the heartbreak and grief it brings. The only comfort left is knowing that our Cherished One is with You now in Heaven with a full heart and eternal soul. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
