Mary Sands

Mary Jane Sands passed away on Saturday, 14 October, 2023, after succumbing to cancer. She is predeceased by her husband, Jerry Sands, who passed in 2004. She is survived by her ex-husband, Roger Bentson, and their three children, Karen Bentson of Mathis, TX, Bradley Bentson of Haines City, FL, and Matthew Bentson of Tucson, AZ.
Mary Jane was born in Dekalb, MS and grew up in Pritchard, AL, graduating from Vigor HS in 1951 where she was a Majorette in the band. She lived a full life and in a number of places, especially during her 26 years raising three children with an US Air Force husband. She sold Mary Kay products for several years, followed by a few years in a secretarial job with the IRS, and Veterans Affairs. She was also Mah Jong player, a bowler and an artist painting in oils. She enjoyed her retired years with her husband, Jerry Sands, living in San Antonio, TX and Hot Springs Village, AR, from 1989 to 2021. Between those two homes, Mary Jane and Jerry enjoyed playing golf, traveling and good friends. She lived her last 2 years in Tucson under the watchful eye of her son, Matt, his wife, Katrina, and the caring staff at The Fountains at La Cholla. Mary Jane touched many lives and her warm smile will be missed by all of us.
