Myrna Orraca Melendez was born on June 2, 1945, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to loving parents, Pedro and Margarita. She passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona, one day shy of her 78th birthday.
Myrna grew up and went to school in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in education and social work.
On December 30, 1970, Myrna married the love of her life, Anibal Martinez. They were blessed with six children. While family was extremely important to Myrna, she enjoyed her career as a social worker and a school counselor. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and reading but found her greatest joy spending time with her grandkids.
Always the voice of reason, Myrna will be remembered as one who spoke her mind—LOUD and clear! She was extremely outgoing and very funny.
Myrna is survived by her six children, Anibal Jr., Carlos, Cesar, Jaime, Myrna, and Sergio; 17 grandchildren; her brother, Pedro Juan; and her sister, Hilda. Her beloved husband, Anibal Sr.; sisters, Iris and Tati; brother Rafa; and her parents preceded her in death.
