Baron Ottfried Johann von Waldenburg was born December 28, 1941, in Berlin, Germany, to Baron Friedrich and Hildegard (Graf) von Waldenburg. He passed away on January 15, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 81.
Ottfried grew up and went to school in Berlin. He later emigrated to North America where he attended Hobart William Smith College in New York before going to medical school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Family was very important to Ottfried, who was also affectionately known as OJ, Otto, Luigi Fuckerelli, Doc, or Wild Bird. He married the love of his life, Countess Elisabeth “Babeth” Marie Yvonne Delachenal, and they enjoyed 43 wonderful years together before her untimely death. They were blessed with four children, Raina, Lara, Ivar, and Avyen.
A brilliant man, Ottfried enjoyed quantum physics and was an inventor. He was a “pool shark” and also enjoyed sailing his schooner. Above all, he loved being with his family. Otto was quite a character. He was always coming up with pranks and starting trouble, undoubtedly the source of his fitting name, Luigi Fuckerelli. You couldn’t spend time with him without plenty of laughs!
Professionally, “Doc” was a Family Practice and ER physician for decades. He worked in Newfoundland, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Arizona, spending 35 years with the Indian Health Service.
He will be remembered as a “Master of Games.” For Ottfried, life was a game, an adventure, a wild ride. He believed that we are all one and that the only thing that is real is Love.
Ottfried is survived by his loving children, Raina, Lara, Ivar and Avyen von Waldenburg; 2 sons-in-love, Dave Schaepe and Peter Bingham; 2 daughters-in-love, Jamie Irene Ellis and Anjela Magpantay; 5 grandchildren, Kiah Schaepe, Sasha Schaepe, Mauro Fernandez von Waldenburg, Ayla von Waldenburg, and Johann von Waldenburg; a great-grandchild on the way; and a dear companion of 16 years, Debbie Stumblingbear. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elisabeth; parents, Friedrich and Hildegard von Waldenburg; and sister, Saskia von Waldenburg Hilton.
