Celebrating the Life
of
Porsha Camille Newton
August 16,1979 – April 21, 2021
“Let the King of My Heart Be the Mountain Where I Run”
These are words from one of Porsha’s favorite songs, “King of My Heart”, that she would sing with her family while
they worshipped and enjoyed Sunday morning church service together.
On April 21, 2021, Porsha quietly departed this earthly life and went to heaven into the arms of “The King of her
heart”. We know she felt God’s warm embrace bringing her the eternal comfort, rest and peace that only He can
provide.
Porsha was born August 16th, 1979 in Torrance, California to her loving parents, Roy and Leslie Newton. She
enjoyed a happy and fun-filled childhood with her siblings. Porsha’s family was always at the center of her life, and
she looked forward to spending time together sharing meals, binge-watching some old but favorite TV shows like “I
Love Lucy”, The Golden Girls, Family Matters, Bill Cosby, and several reality mystery murder channels. Spending
time with “P”, “Peep”, “Porty” (nicknames used and known only by those closest to her) meant laughing at silly jokes,
retelling stories that only she and you could relate to, watching favorite movies, and playing board games. She
especially loved playing cards with the family, particularly with her dad who she continued to beat and would always
say “well, you are the one who taught me the game!” Porsha was not only an aunt to her niece Cyniya but, stepped
into the role of being her godmother. Their special bond included “P and Niya time” which meant taking in a movie,
getting manicures, or sleepovers where they would watch their favorite animated movies until early hours of the
morning.
Porsha lived in California until her family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1987. Tucson is where she found and
developed her skill as a track star competing in local and national track and field events. In 1989 a newspaper article
titled “This Porsha Flies!” was written about her exceptional track and field skills as a sprinter, when she brought
home the gold from an annual track meet hosted by the Track Athletic Congress (TAC) league. She won 1st places in
her favorite events, the 100- and 200-meter races. Years later, she attended Canyon del Oro High School where she
became a cheerleader while still competing on a national level in track and field. She was best known for being an
“All-Star” in Track and Field competitions as she continued to excel at Junior Olympic events as a member of the
Arizona Lightning track club. Her track coach Maurice Streety recounts her track and field years: “at a USATF
developmental track meet in the winter of 1992, our Arizona Lightning track club youth girls were on a roll taking 3 of
4 top spots in the sprints. We were dominating the field...and then Porsha happened. This streak flew through the
100- and 200-meter dash. She had a competitive glare. She was there to win and win she did…early and often!
Porsha was the fastest female athlete I’d ever coached, making her a threat to the opposing teams in the sprints and
relays. I always wanted a Porsche, but I'd settle to see our Porsha run one more time.!”
After graduating from high school, Porsha attended Pima Community College continuing her life journey in pursuit of
helping others. Years later, she began a career in the field of Mental Health Care. In 2014 she Attended the
University of Arizona completing extensive training to become a certified Recovery Support Specialist. March 17,
2017, she married Brent Chamberlin in Tucson, Arizona. They were together only a few years, but she never lost her
focus and maintained her drive to work in the field she loved. Her last career opportunity was working as a Support
Program Supervisor with The Mentor Network in Tucson, Arizona. Her big heart and loving spirit were clearly
reflected in her dedication to her job as she provided heart felt compassionate care to those in need. She was doing
what she loved most…supporting others. Her family and friends will attest that Porsha loved hard and her bonds with
others were strong. She was the go-to person with a strong shoulder who would listen to your worries, give you her
opinion, then embrace you with the love that was the natural part of her beautiful personality. She would give her
attention as well as her last dime to helping someone in need.
Porsha loved the Lord and attended Victory Worship Center in Tucson, Arizona where she developed her spiritual
walk. She sealed her commitment to Christ by being baptized at her church in 2014.
While we are certainly experiencing our own individual grief over the sudden loss of our sweet Porsha, we know with
certainty how much she loved her family and friends. As we honor her life with funny stories and warm memories,
she would also want us to use this painful reality to hold each other a little closer, hug each other a little tighter, be
kinder to one another, and reaffirm our belief and trust in God.
Celebrating her life and remembering her beautiful and joyful spirit are her loving parents, Roy L. and Leslie R.
Newton; Sisters: Tanya M. Newton, Timiera M. and her husband Lawrence Bolden, Farrah L. Newton, Kiera M.

Rest in peace, our beloved Porsha…we will miss your beautiful physical presence, but your loving spirit will be with
us always.
John 3:
16 “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [a]
only begotten Son, so that
whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the
world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved
through Him.
Colossians 2:
5 For even though I am absent [from you] in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, delighted to see your good discipline [as
you stand shoulder to shoulder and form a solid front] and to see the stability of your faith in Christ [your steadfast reliance on
Him and your unwavering confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness].
John 16:
22 So for now you are in grief; but I will see you again, and [then] your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away from you
your [great] joy.
Revelation 21
21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away (vanished), and there is no
longer any [a]
sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, arrayed like a bride adorned
for her husband; 3 and then I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “See! The tabernacle of God is among men, and He will
live among them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them [as their God,] 4 and He will wipe away every
tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be death; there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for
the former order of things has passed away.”
