Richard “Rick” Anthony Monte Carlo de Lopez passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona. He was born in Macon, Georgia on June 11, 1959.
Rick grew up in Atlanta. He was a graduate of Georgia State University. He worked at Winn Dixie for many years, while singing in a Band called The Other Side. He worked as a paralegal before moving to Tucson with Dianna and Cameron in 1999 where he started working for Rick Engineering as a land surveyor until he retired in 2019. Rick took pride in the work he did in the hot Arizona sun.
Rick loved music. Talking about, listening to, writing, and singing it. Rick’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. Smoking a turkey on his Big Green Egg for Thanksgiving dinner was a tradition for several years. He stayed interested in politics. He enjoyed reading. Mostly history novels. He loved watching sports. Especially University of Georgia football games. He was an avid Jeopardy watcher, played words with friends on Facebook. It was important to him to send personalized notes with his Christmas cards.
But mostly, he enjoyed the friendships he developed over the years and the many goods times spent together at Christmas parties, picnics, BBQs, birthday parties, concerts, hanging out on the back porch, or just talking on the phone. He stayed in touch and kept-up with his friends. He made it a point to call family and friends on their birthdays.
His favorite times were the years that he lived in Tucker, Georgia and sang with his friends in a band called The Other Side. He always longed to be a rock star.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roberto Monte Carlo de Lopez, and his mother Sylvia Elaine Carroll, grandparents, Charles Talmadge Carroll, Charlotte Macon Carroll, Blas Lopez, and Clarita Lopez
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dianna Garcia, stepson, Cameron Garcia of Albuquerque, New Mexico and siblings, Steve Lopez of Phoenix, Arizona, Carla Lopez of San Angelo, Texas, Rosé Marie Lopez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Aunt Virginia Carroll (Bob Brown), and cousins Julie Palmer Hesler (Steve) and Van Palmer.
Rick passed away after recent health struggles.
We are honoring Rick’s wishes for no funeral or memorial services.
Rest in peace.
