Ross Masten Ogburn, born on June 17, 2002, in Winston-Salem, NC was sent to his eternal home on November 19, 2024, at the age of 22. He was the beloved son of Robert Ross Ogburn and Mindy Stokes Ogburn.
Ross is survived by his loving parents, Bobby and Mindy. Ross was predeceased by his grandparents Richard (Dickie) and Katherine (Kitty) Ogburn and Gilbert (Gil) and Betty Stokes, and Uncle David Genung. He leaves behind aunts and uncles who adore and love him dearly: John and Judi Russell, Court and Brenda Dixon, Nan Stokes, Mike Stokes, Craig Stokes and Tia Chick, Ginny Genung and Frank Peplowski, Richard (Bo) and Angie Ogburn and his great-aunt Dottie and Barry Cook. Ross loved all his cousins--- Brice (Leah) Stokes; Suzi Russell (Rob) Cook and their children Robbie and Sunny; Keli Russell (Rolf) Bernhoff and their children Anna Sofia and Cecilia; Justin (Casey) Vernon; Sarah Vernon (Tyler) Craig and their child Rivers; Daniel Genung; Kylie Ogburn; Colin Ogburn; and KC Ogburn.
Ross graduated from RJ Reynolds High School in 2020 and NC State University’s Poole School of Management in 2024. He grew up playing soccer and enjoyed playing basketball with his friends. Ross had many layers with many likes and interests that changed over the years. He loved legos, reading, movies, taking long walks and going on hikes with friends and family, snuggling with his dogs, good food, visiting art museums, thrifting, music, and sketching. He had a rare gift for capturing detail in his drawings. His email signature never changed over the years as he always signed off with “Legos and Soccer rock!” He was a gifted artist in many ways. He was an entertaining musician on the piano – playing for family and friends in public and private, always ending a song with his own musical “Ross” flare!
Ross had a very interesting sense of style and taste in vintage clothes. His love of vintage clothing along with his entrepreneurial spirit inspired his online vintage clothing store called Ogburn Vintage (now called @KookyKeeps). Ross was passionate about thrifting and enjoyed discovering treasures found in various local and online thrift shops.
His journey on this earth was short but one marked by love, compassion, and laughter. His passing has left so much emptiness in the hearts of his parents, family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. He was a loyal friend and a person who felt emotions deeply. Over the past few years, despite all the love and support, Ross struggled to find contentment and happiness. Although his life ended suddenly, he lived a life filled with learning, music, adventure, discovery, travel, and creativity.
Ross was our angel, our gift. We will always remember the warmth and laughter in his smile, his laid-back easy-going stride, and the sparkle in his crinkle-eyes. We feel very fortunate for the love he brought into our lives.
